We are excited that you are interested in taking a mission’s trip and especially to Bolivia. This will be an exciting trip that you will never forget and will impact your life for eternity. Here you will find answers to the majority of the questions that you might have but if you have other questions feel free to contact us.
Why Take a Mission’s Trip?
Taking a mission’s trip to another country will impact you in so many ways.My first mission’s trip to Peru changed my life and is much of why I am on the mission field today.
- It will allow you to participate in the great commission taking the gospel to the world.
- It will allow you to be exposed to a new culture and language and to see what life on the mission field is really like.
- It will allow you to see the need first hand so that you can pray about what the Lord would have you do for world evangelism.
What to Expect:
The people:
The people of Bolivia are generally very friendly and affectionate as part of their culture. For example it is custom that everyone shake hands when greeting each other and the ladies generally give a kiss (touch cheeks and making a kissing noise) with both other ladies and men when they greet each other. Spanish is the main language spoken although they enjoy trying to communicate in English when people visit. Although pick pocketing is common in most South American countries, we have had very few problems and generally stay away from areas that could put you at risk for those things.
The Weather:
Our city is at an elevation of almost 9,000 feet so the climate is very mild. July is actually our winter time which means that temperatures will range from the upper 40’s low 50’s at night to the upper 60’s low 70’s during the day. It is usually good to bring a mix of long sleeve and short sleeve cloths with a light jacket for the nights.
Activities:
This will be an action packed trip with a variety of opportunities to participate in ministry and get to learn about the history and culture of Bolivia. Some of the activities would include:
- Evangelizing (passing out tracts)
- Conference – This week will be our annual youth conference.
- Monastery – Learning about the history of the Catholic church and religion.
- Cristo de la Concordia – A 132 foot statue of Christ that overlooks the entire city of Cochabamba.
- Shopping for Souvenirs
Details of the Trip:
Food:
We will have a combination of meals cooked at our home and eating at restaurants, trying some of the traditional Bolivian food.
Lodging:
In most cases if the group is not too large we try and have everyone stay with us at our home. If the group is larger, then we will make arrangements for accommodations in a mission’s guest house. (This will determine the amount payed for food and lodging)
Transportation:
In some cases if the group is large there might be a need to rent a small van for transportation. This would be a small extra cost not included in the normal trip expenses.
Travel:
The plane tickets will need to be purchased several months in advanced. You will be responsible to purchase your own tickets but we ask that you coordinate with the trip leader to make sure that everyone will be traveling and arriving together.
We also ask that you make a deposit of $200 one month before the trip to reserve your tickets to arrive here in our city and make preparations for your arrival. That can be sent to Macedonia World Baptist Missions P.O Box 519 Braselton GA 30517 c/o Bolivia Trip.
