Nearly half of the city’s population is made up of Mohajirs, and some sources say that up to 10 million live in the city. The Mohajirs are an Urdu-speaking people group who are native to India. There are six major people groups in this city with over one million in population–Pashtun, Sindhi, Baloch, Punjabi, Bengali and Mohajirs. Karachi is an extremely chaotic city with inter-ethnic conflicts, kidnappings, crimes, and much drug addiction.
Religiously, this is an extremely Muslim city, with statistics showing somewhere around 9% with another 2.5% claiming to being Christian and the remainder being a conglomeration of other religious beliefs.
The most prosperous city in Pakistan, Karachi is a center of higher education for all of Southern Asia, as well as the wider Muslim world. Over 50% of Pakistan’s economic revenue comes from the city of Karachi and it would seem that capturing this city for the gospel is the key to reaching this country.
