Are you a True Disciple?:
When we look at Christianity as a whole, this is the first question that we probably should ask, “Are you are True Disciple of Christ?”. Now a days being a Christian is simply praying a prayer, growing up in church and has very little to do with our everyday life. When Jesus said to His disciples “Go ye therfore and make disciples” I don’t think he had in mind what we see in the average Christian’s life today. Often serving Christ is thought of as something that is only for pastors or missionaries and is something that is done only if there is nothing else to do. I can definitely say that there is a great need and call for disciples and therefore the question, are you a true disciple of Christ. That is exactly what we focused on for this years youth conference called “Disciple”. Our desire was to see our young people decide to be true disciples of Christ. We were privileged to have with us Bro. Chris Gardner missionary to Peru preaching the conference. The conference was Thursday thru Saturday night but during the mornings we met with some of the main guys from the church to talk about sermon preparation and expository preaching. On Saturday night we had over 100 for the service and many decisions were made for the Lord. Then on Sunday we had three great services learning about what Christ taught His disciples before His ascension. It was truly a wonderful time of growth for the people of our church and we are very thankful to Bro. Chris Gardner for his time to come and be with us. Please pray for the youth of our church because they are the future for what God wants to do here in Bolivia.
A Great Need:
Several years ago I wrote about an event that took place at one of our biggest tourist sites here in Cochabamaba. A large statue of Jesus that over looks our city and can be seen from almost any part. It was there that I saw an older lady, and what looked like her granddaughter walk up to the statue and cross themselves as most good Catholics do. The little girl then looked at the large cast iron Bible at the feet of the statue and asked, “what does it say?”. Her grandmother read John 14:6 “I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father but by me”. After a minute or two the little girl asked her grandmother what it meant. As I waited to hear the answer she gave, several minutes went by and the grandmother took the little girls hand and they walked away. I couldn’t believe that she had no idea what it meant. All I could think was, how many other young girls like this one want an answer but there is no one to tell them. Please pray that the Lord would send laborers to Bolivia because the harvest is great but the laborers are few.
Special Visitor:
For the past month we have had a special visitor here with us from our home church, Karina Aguirre. My wife met Karina a while back at a conference held in Gatlinburg TN and at that time she spoke with us about coming to Bolivia for a mission’s trip. It was more than a year later but she made it here to visit and we are glad she did. I think that Karina not only learned about missions while here but she was a great help and blessing. She jumped in with both feet and helped with many of the young girls in our church that still have some struggles in their Christian life. We are very proud of her and pray that the Lord will use her greatly in His service. If you are interested in coming to Bolivia please let us know. It will be something you never forget.
