I have heard it said that “It is still yet to be seen what God could do with one person totally committed to Him”.
God could have chosen any other way to get the gospel to the world but He chose us.
2 Corinthians 5:18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation;
God wants to use you and me to do something great and I truly believe that every person wants to have a life that counts for something especially when it comes to reaching this world with the gospel.
Is it that God doesn’t want people saved and isn’t calling or is it that too often we are not listening.
So the question is, “What Kind of Person does God Use?”
I. He Uses Common People.
1 Corinthians 1:26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called:
1 Corinthians 1:27 But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty;
1 Corinthians 1:28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are:
1 Corinthians 1:29 That no flesh should glory in his presence.
It’s not based on our intelligence
– Who is the smartest person in the world? (Einstein, Isaac Newton, Thomas Edison)
– You might say, “I could never be as smart as one of them.” That is fine because that is not the type of person God uses.
It’s not based on our ability
– Who is the strongest person in the world? (Arnold Schwarzenegger, Paul Anderson 1200 lbs squat)
– You might say, “well I am not that strong.” That is fine because that is not the type of person God uses.
It’s not based on our importance
– Who is the most important person you know? (The president, The Queen of England)
– You might say, “I will never be famous.” That is fine because that is not the type of person God uses.
You and I are in luck because He uses common people like you and I.
The reason He uses people like that is so that it will be for His honor and glory. (29)
He just wants people that are willing to follow Him.
II. He Uses Consecrated People
2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
Not perfect People
– As Paul was telling Timothy to commit what he had learned to others he told him to seek out men that were “faithful”.
– Now this doesn’t mean that we have to be perfect or even super spiritual because if we looked at ourselves like that we would end up taking the glory for ourselves.
– The Bible is filled with stories of broken and imperfect men that He has used to do great things. (Moses – pride, Abraham – lied , David – cheated)
– Not that sin doesn’t have consequences or that God takes sin lightly but He looks for people that even when they fail they recognized their failure and turned to Him.
Faithful People
– What does it mean to be faithful?
– Faithfulness begins with desire.
– It’s a desire for the things of God. (Church, the Bible, telling others, asking questions)
– It is being faithful in the things you know and growing in faithfulness.
– It doesn’t mean you never mess up but that you get back up and continue to move forward.
III. He Uses Committed People
2 Timothy 2:2 And the things that thou hast heard of me among many witnesses, the same commit thou to faithful men, who shall be able to teach others also.
– God uses people that are not only faithful but also show ability, capacity.
– In other words they use the talent they have and grow in their talent.
– I believe that ability is really based on teachability. (Being willing to relearn something that you’ve already learned.)
– If you are teachable you can learn to do almost anything.
– I am not a natural leader but God has helped me get out of my comfort zone and lead better.
– It can also help you find the right place that you fit in.
God wants to use you for His honor and glory. You might not think that you are “that” person, but let me assure you, that if you are willing, God will use you in a great way to bring honor and glory to His name.
What are some of the ways that the Lord has helped you to grow outside of your confort zone to do more for Him?
