In many Latin cultures, there is a big emphasis put on the family and specially on children. On Saturdays and Sundays the parks are full of families with their children, sometimes just laying out on a blanket or having a picnic. Once year they even have a day which is called Children’s Day, where as you can imagine, the focus is celebrating children. Every school will have a big celebration and most restaurants will have jumps houses and free food for all the children. As a church we take advantage of the emphasis to try and reach new children in the community. On this past Saturday we had a community fair, in the park close to our church, to celebrate Children’s Day. We put up banners and streamers and had carnival games where the kids could win tickets and with their tickets they could redeem prizes. We handed our invitations but many kids came because they saw all the activity and heard all the noise. In total there were close to forty that came and played for almost two hours and at the end we shared the gospel with them. The neatest part is that on Sunday several of those new kids came to our Sunday School for the first time. We have been able to see first hand how children are the future of the church. Many who started at nine and ten years old, are now adults in our church and some of them are even preparing for the ministry. So pray for these children that they will grow up to be godly men and women that will serve the Lord.
