The Land of Great Need:
Pretty much everywhere you go here in Cochabamba, there is tremendous need for the gospel. There are areas of hundreds of thousands of people without a church preaching the gospel. One of those areas is called Quillacollo, where we planted our second church. Quillacollo was founded around the turn of the century and since has become one of the fastest growing areas in our city. Estimates show that there are close to two hundred thousand people that live in Quillacollo and people continue to move to the area from other cities on a regular basis. With this amount of people it is alarming that there are very few churches preaching the gospel. Not only is there a large population with few churches, but it is one of the strong holds for Catholicism. In Quillacollo, they have a celebration every year to the Virgen of Urkupiña, where close to three hundred thousand people come. This is why we are trying to help the church there purchase land, so they can continue to be a light in a dark place. This past month we had two more offerings come in of $500 and $100. That brings our total to $8000 that we now have of the $15,00o that we need to secure the land. We are praying that the remainder of the $15,000 that we need will come in soon, so that we can secure the land. When you give, you can have a part in helping this church reach many people with the gospel, and see the Lord do a great work in their lives. 194 Years Old:
This past month, the 6th of August, we celebrate our independence day here in Bolivia. This marks 194 years that Bolivia has been a nation. Bolivia is one of the most diverse countries in the world and has both beautiful people and landscapes. In the east you have the snow capped Andes mountains and the Altiplano, or high plateau that is at 13,000 feet elevation. In the middle you have the fertile valleys where Cochabamba is located, and in the east you have the Amazon basin where the majority of the jungle is located. In Bolivia, independence day is usually celebrated by eating traditional foods along with various parades. In our church, we had a celebration, recognizing the three main regions of the country. We divided the church in three groups with one representing the western, high plains, the other represented the middle or valleys and the third group represented the eastern plains or tropical area of Bolivia. Each group had to decorate their table according to their region, bring food from that region and also prepare special music and a skit. At the end I had to pick the winning group that did the best in decoration, participation and food. While they all did great, and the food was amazing, the group representing the east won the prize.
Prayer Requests:
1. Pray for the church in Quillacollo as they try and raise the money to buy land.
2. Pray for the eastern part of Bolivia and the fires there.
3. Pray for Bolivia as we will be having elections for president next month.
4. Pray for the need for laborers here in Bolivia.
