Today I was able to solve one of life’s unsolvable mysteries. Well at least in the life of a missionary. Raising children in mixed cultures and languages is always interesting. One of the phrases that can be heard often when it comes to my youngest daughter Taylor is “Taylor why did you do that?”. What was always puzzling was that she would only respond by repeating what we said “Why did I….” Tonight when she responded and I could understand her I realized that instead of saying “why” she was trying to say “because”. This is because the two words are the same in Spanish which she mostly hears and speaks. In Spanish why is por qúe? and because is porque. So instead of copying us she was trying to respond because. So there you have it one of life’s mysteries (for a missionary) now solved.
